Happy Holidays Everyone!
In the season when we take a moment to reflect on that for which we are grateful, I am reminded that much has been accomplished in the last year here at Rio Metro Regional Transit District. And while change is inevitable, it is also what keeps the wheels of progress turning in a positive direction for us all.
Having recently assumed the position of Director of Operations for RMRTD, I am thankful to have spent the past 17-years as NM Rail Runner Operations Manager, working side-by-side with some of the most dedicated transportation staff members I could ask for. Together, we have not simply built a railroad, but in reality, have assembled a complete transportation system for the people of central New Mexico to use - and certainly one of which they can be proud.
Onward & Upward!
The beginning of 2022 saw the Rail Runner still hitting the reset button on ridership brought on by the lingering effects of the pandemic. But by spring, skyrocketing gas prices spawned a huge jump in ridership – which was somewhat sustained by reducing fares by 75-percent, a measure that eventually was extended through the end of the year.
Answering the Call
On the heels of those reduced fares, Rio Metro found itself well-positioned in August to give train riders something they’ve wanted for several years – more service! Two additional trains were added to both the weekday schedule and the Saturday schedule giving riders many more options.
Looking Ahead!
And to round out the year, Rio Metro will host a groundbreaking for the Valencia County Transit Facility – the future home of Rio Metro’s Valencia County bus services. Located on eight-acres just off NM Hwy 6 and NM Hwy 47 in the Village of Los Lunas, with a completion date set for late 2023.
Grateful to All
So as 2022 comes to a close, there are many things for which to be thankful, and many more to look forward to in the coming year. Thanks to all of you, we are more united than ever in our commitment to our mission and exciting future.
I wish you and your families the happiest of holidays filled with good will and compassion…and I hope to see the many smiling and familiar faces aboard Rio Metro transit in the days ahead.
Enjoy the Season!
