Meet the Operators

Rio Metro Driver Deanna GonzalesDeanna Gonzales, Rio Metro Bus Operator, Valencia County

“I love my job!” That was the first thing Deanna Gonzales said when asked about being a Rio Metro Bus Operator.

Gonzales, who has made driving a career, has worked with Rio Metro’s Valencia County operation for more than six years, and has been in the business of transportation for 24 years. She currently operates a Rio Metro Valencia Dial-a-Ride bus, as well as drives the Route 208 between Belen and Albuquerque mid-day.

Rio Metro Dispatcher Karen MullinsKaren Mullins, Rio Metro Dispatcher, Sandoval County

“It’s really rewarding. That’s why I like this job,” said Karen Mullins, a Dispatcher in Rio Metro’s Sandoval County office. Mullins joined the Rio Metro team more than two years ago.

She started as a bus operator, but quickly transitioned into her current position as Dispatcher. “We help seniors with their independence,” she said. “And it helps their families. At the end of the day, you feel like you did something good.”

Safety is the number one priority for Rio Metro, and safety is key to every aspect of the job for Matthew Wylie, Quality Assurance Coordinator for the Rio Metro Regional Transit District and New Mexico Rail Runner Express.

“I do a lot of joint operations tests with our contractor,” said Wylie. “I internally report anything that needs improvements or expectations that are not being met.” In addition, he has taken on project management and coordination roles with other government agencies. “Almost everywhere I go along the corridor, I see a project that I’ve had a part in,” he said.
