Plan Your Trip

Schedules may look complicated, but once you become familiar with them, they are really quite easy. Rio Metro buses travel throughout Sandoval, Bernalillo and Valencia counties. To plan your trip, look at the Rio Metro map for the route you wish to take, then look at the schedule. Here's what you'll need to find on a schedule:

  • Route number
  • Route name
  • Route map
  • List of key stops and major destinations
  • Departure and arrival times

Tips for Reading a Schedule

All times listed are departure times, unless otherwise noted.

Get to Your Bus Stop

Arrive at the bus stop five minutes before the scheduled departure time. Rio Metro bus stop signs are red, white and blue like the one pictured here. The curb may also be painted yellow with the words "bus stop" printed on it. In some cases, the painted curb may be the only indication that you are at a bus stop.

Board the Bus & Pay Your Fare

When you see a bus approaching, look at the electronic destination sign above the front windshield to verify the route number. To let the bus driver know you want to board, please stand and wait near the curb at the designated bus stop. Be ready with exact change, a valid bus pass, or a valid Rail Runner printed or mobile ticket for a smoother boarding process. Visit the Rio Metro Bus Fares page for more information.

Get Off at Your Stop

Let the driver know before your stop that you will need to exit the bus.
