Job Opening: Transportation Planning Intern

Job Opportunity SmallThe Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) seeks a motivated, detail-oriented individual to serve as a Transportation Planning Intern.

Essential functions may include policy and best practices research, writing, performing various data cleaning and analysis procedures to assist with regional transportation planning efforts, including but not limited to: data collection; data quality checking; data archiving; data entry; GIS data processing. The position will provide the intern with the opportunity to learn about the basics of metropolitan transportation planning. The intern will be paid $10.00 per hour with no benefits, working approximately 10 hours per week for no longer than 9 months after official start date. MRCOG offers flexibility within regular business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Mon.-Fri.) to accommodate student schedules. Credit hours granted for this work experience are solely at the discretion of the student’s college or university and should be discussed with a program advisor. MRCOG will provide an end-of-term evaluation upon request.

Qualifications: Enrolled in an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree program in planning, geography, earth sciences, economics, or related field. Proficient in spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel with strong quantitative and data analysis skills, and written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to work with a variety of individuals. Previous experience with data analysis and/or GIS is strongly preferred.
