Rail Accessibility

Oada--train-rampur Trains are Fully Accessible

 

All New Mexico Rail Runner Express stations are accessible by ramp or mini high-level platform. All train cars are equipped with four priority seating locations for individuals with disabilities.


Paying Your Fare

  • Individuals with disabilities may purchase a reduced fare ticket online, on our app, or on board the train with proper ID.
  • Seniors age 62+ and individuals with disabilities ride at a reduced rate.
  • When onboard the train, show your reduced fare ticket/disability notification to the ticket agent when asked.

Finding Your Way Around Stations

  • Stations have ramps providing access to platforms and parking areas.
  • Textured rubber tiles along the length of train platforms warn passengers that they are close to the platform edge. These tiles can be detected with a cane or foot.
  • At each station, kiosks have a one-push call button to contact Customer Service directly.
  • Signs and other design features will help you get to and from New Mexico Rail Runner Express stations and show you how to use our trains.
  • Changeable message signs on the platform announce late trains and provide service updates.

  • Each rail station platform has a wheelchair ramp, called a mini-high, to assist entry onto the trains. The mini-highs bridge the gap between the platform and the train for safer and easier boarding and disembarking. These are usually set up for boarding in the last car from the locomotive.
  • Gas powered vehicles including bicycles, mopeds, and scooters are not allowed on the train.
  • Hover boards are not allowed on the train.

Priority Seating

  • Designated seating for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities is available on all rail cars. Seating is designed to provide easy access for individuals with disabilities, including those using mobility devices. Signs are posted in these areas alerting all customers of this priority. If other passengers are using these seats, the conductor or ticket agent can politely ask them to move.
  • Each train has cars that are equipped with ADA accessible restrooms and wheelchair locks.
  • On-board video monitors track the train’s progress on any given trip.
  • Train operators announce the name of the next station.
  • Service animals are permitted at stations and on trains. Service animals must be leashed and kept on the floor and out of the aisles as much as possible, and must be under the control of their owners at all times.
