Rail Runner Service Extends Suspension

Rail Service Suspended

New Mexico Rail Runner Express officials continue to work with New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Administration and Task Force to develop COVID-Safe Practices to determine when it is deemed safe to begin Rail Runner service. At this time service suspension continues.

“There are a number of protocols we need to implement to ensure the safety of our customers and staff - including how best to support social distancing, stringent sanitation, and other COVID-Safe Practices such as the optimum train schedule at this time,” said Terry Doyle, Director of Rio Metro Regional Transit District, the agency which oversees the Rail Runner.

Positive Train Control Testing Continues

While the Rail Runner will not be transporting passengers, testing and implementation of Positive Train Control (PTC) will continue in the corridor as scheduled. PTC is a $50-million federal safety enhancement designed to prevent train-to-train collisions, high-speed derailments and other catastrophic events on the railway.
