Meet Lydia Martinez, Rio Metro Bus Driver

Lydia Martinez Rio Metro Bus Driver

Every day is different for Lydia Martinez. As a Dial-a-Ride Bus Driver for Rio Metro’s Sandoval County operation, she spends her days picking people up and bringing them to a variety of locations.

“We provide door-to-door transportation service,” says Lydia. “We often bring people to the Meadowlark Senior Center, grocery stores, and adult daycare services like LifeROOTS and Share Your Care.”

Service with a  Smile

“Although it’s different every day, we have a lot of the same people riding, so you get to know your passengers.”

While Lydia says it can be tiring driving eight hours a day, it goes by fast, largely due to the people she interacts with. “You have to be patient when you drive, and it’s important to be nice and courteous. People are very appreciative of the service.”

On the  Road Again

Lydia is no stranger to operating large vehicles. She has been driving for Rio Metro for about 9 months, but spent many years in the transportation industry.

“Before this job I drove for a retirement home. I was also a school bus driver for 14 years, and before that I drove a rental car shuttle bus at the airport for 14 years as well.”

“I like the people. I like my co-workers. Everyone is super nice. I enjoy my job,” she says.

Thank you, Lydia, for all you do!
